Welcome to a brand new year! Are you the kind of person that gets super jazzed about a new planner, new goals, and new chapter? Or are you the kind of person that feels a little tired and reluctant thinking about New Years resolutions?
Sometimes, I'm a bit of both. For 2025, I think a more therapeutic way of setting goals for the year would be more-so setting intentions.
So in this blog post, we're looking at how to choose your word for the year, which we will then build intentions off of.
Start the New Year with a clear Purpose
When picking your word for the year, think of it as a way to clearly communicate your values, energy, and vibe of 2025. Think of it as a theme for your year. Having a word of the year helps you focus on process goals vs outcome goals. Think of it this way, if your word of the year is Pursue, then anything you do this year that has that theme is a win. Whether or not your get that dream career or not, at least you were in the pursuit of that goal.
How to Pick your Word
Choosing your word of the year begins with self reflection and awareness. Start by journaling, or talking with a friend, through these prompts:
What do I want more of in my life?
What do I want less of in my life?
At the end of this year, how do I want to feel?
At the beginning of this year, how do I currently feel?
What things are more important to me right now and what do I think will be most important to me at the end of 2025?
Make it Intentional and Visual
Now that you've brainstormed the theme, or the vibe, of your 2025, lets make it clear and concrete. Write your word down somewhere where you'll see it daily, make a vision board (paper or digital!), set yearly and monthly goals based off your word. Every day, make a decision, big or small, to make progress towards your Word of the Year. And remember, even if goals don't get that satisfying checkmark at the end of the year, if you're continually building towards your word, you've hit the mark.
Happy Planning!
