When couples get engaged, a question that often comes up is, “what do we do now?”. Planning a wedding is one thing, but what about planning a marriage?
Too often, couples focus solely on the wedding part of engagement. And to be fair, there’s a lot to plan! Photographer, videographer, venue, invite list… the to-do list never seems to end. But once the wedding is over and the marriage certificate is signed, what kind of relationship do you have?
A marriage ceremony is one thing, but to have a life-giving marriage… that’s something you build over time and with intentionality.
Too often, the art of building a strong marriage is forgotten as the art of creating a beautiful wedding takes over. Truly, the best thing you can do right now is start building a strong marital foundation before the ceremony even begins.
I hear it so many times, that couples don’t want to recreate the same failed marriages they saw growing up. But if we don’t work to establish something different before the ceremony, it’s only natural that we’ll fall back on old patterns or ways of communicating we saw growing up.
Consider premarital counseling an investment in your long-term happiness and success as a couple.
